Less-than-Truckload, or commonly referred to as LTL, is a type of shipping service aimed to save shippers money through consolidation. The service is typically utilized when a full truckload is not needed to complete the service. A standard LTL shipment is typically under 6 pallets and between 80 - 10,000 pounds. However, LTL freight rates are based on unique contracts and cubic-capacity rules that may affect these conditions.
LTL carriers use local terminals to help pickup and consolidate smaller shipments.
