TLI's Weekly Transportation Update

November 7, 2022

Winter/Inclement Weather are affecting LTL service in specific areas of country. Truckload markets tighten at end of October as shippers push freight out for end of month.

Small Parcel Update:

In recent weeks, UPS has announced a General Rate Increase (GRI) for 2023 of 6.9%. This increase is effective on 12/27/22. FedEx recently announced the same GRI increase of 6.9% for next year effective on 1/2/23.

Less-Than-Truckload:

Winter weather is upon us as we head towards the end of the year. Specific parts of the country are being impacted by winter storms that may affect service outside of affected area. Current winter weather is affecting UT, CO, ID, and WY areas and Florida is still being impacted by Hurricane Ian aftermaths.

LTL carriers are continually working through capacity issues on a terminal, shipment, and day-to-day basis. Weekly updates/directions are given by carriers to help alleviate their terminal which may include: freight embargos, dimension/quantity restrictions, and transit delays. TLI is actively monitoring these situations and will update any affected customer with solutions.

Truckload Update:

Capacity tightened last week due to the end-of-month push. Spot loads increased 2.5 % according to DAT in the week of October 31 compared to the week of October 24. Spot loads were down 51.8% compared to October 2021. Load-to-Truck National Averages are quite lower than we’ve seen in the past, as seen in the “Chart of the Week” from DAT Freight & Analytics.

TLI is actively monitoring situations in the industry, such as acquisitions, embargos, and other industry disruptions. If a TLI client is directly affected by any of these events, your TLI representatives will reach out to discuss what this means for your account.

TLI highly suggests that on all shipments you provide our team with the “Must Arrive by Date” (MABD) as to when you need the product delivered. This will help us select the proper transit time / equipment type at the best current freight rate.
