6 Most Common LTL Accessorials

Top Common LTL Accessorials

Less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers are an important part of the transportation industry, providing a cost-effective way to ship smaller loads that do not require a full truckload. However, LTL carriers often charge additional fees, called accessorials, for services that are not included in the standard shipping price. These fees can add significant costs to your shipment, so it's important to understand what they are and how they are calculated.

The 6 most common LTL accessorials are:

  • Fuel Surcharge

An additional charge for delivering a shipment to a residential address instead of a commercial location. This fee is based on the extra time and labor required to make a residential delivery.

  • Residential Delivery

Describe the item or answer the question so that site visitors who are interested get more information. You can emphasize this text with bullets, italics or bold, and add links.
  • Liftgate Service

A fee for using a liftgate to load or unload a shipment from a truck. Liftgates are commonly used for heavy or bulky items that cannot be manually loaded onto a truck.

  • Limited Access Delivery

A fee for delivering a shipment to a location that has limited access, such as a construction site or a military base. This fee is based on the extra time and labor required to make a delivery to a difficult-to-reach location.

  • Notify on Arrival

A fee for providing advanced notice to the recipient that a shipment is about to arrive. This service is often used for time-sensitive shipments that need to be closely monitored. TLI often waives this shipment for shippers as it benefits both the carrier and consignee when the freight is offloaded as scheduled.

  • Inside Delivery

An additional charge for delivering a shipment inside a building, rather than just dropping it off at the loading dock. This service is often required for large or fragile items that need special handling.

In conclusion, understanding LTL accessorials is an important part of managing your transportation costs. By being aware of these fees and how they are calculated, you can make informed decisions about your shipping needs and avoid unexpected freight invoice charges
