Small Parcel Shipping Delays Due to Hurricanes Helene and Milton

Joe McDevitt • October 16, 2024

Important Small Parcel Update

We want to inform our small parcel shipping clients of possible transit time delays caused by the severe weather from Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which have brought heavy flooding and disruption across the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic U.S., including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. Our partners, including UPS, FedEx, DHL, and USPS, are actively working to restore services, but delays in these regions are unavoidable at this time. Below is a summary of each carrier's updates on the situation:

Small Parcel Shipping Update

USPS: Flooding and Severe Weather Impacting Delivery

USPS has reported that flooding and severe weather in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states are disrupting mail and package processing and transportation. Customers should expect delays and are advised to allow extra time for deliveries in the affected areas.

DHL: Service Disruption from Hurricanes Helene and Milton

DHL Express is closely monitoring the impact of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which have caused significant flooding and damage, particularly in Florida and North Carolina. DHL’s operations in affected regions may experience temporary delays or suspensions. DHL has contingency plans to minimize the service impact, but delays are expected as road closures and unsafe conditions continue to affect deliveries.

FedEx: Weather and Service Disruptions

FedEx has activated contingency plans to ensure safe and timely deliveries in areas affected by both hurricanes. While pickup and delivery services will continue where possible, customers should expect delays in parts of Florida and the Southeastern U.S. due to local conditions. FedEx’s Money-Back Guarantee does not apply to shipments delayed by hurricanes or tropical storms.

UPS: Service Impact from Hurricane Milton

UPS is experiencing service delays in Florida and surrounding regions due to Hurricane Milton. While pickup and delivery services are operational, delays are anticipated due to weather-related disruptions. Contingency plans are in place to minimize delays, but customers are advised that the UPS Service Guarantee does not apply to shipments affected by this event.
