TLI University: Holding Freight Hostage

While TLI does not have freight held hostage due to extensive carrier vetting, it is important to know the procedure in the event of crisis TLI would embark on, or you as a shipper would do so yourself.  CargoNet is a company that provides theft prevention and recovery services to the transportation industry. It was created in response to the high rate of cargo theft that occurs in the trucking industry. CargoNet works with trucking companies, shippers, and law enforcement to track and recover stolen cargo, as well as to prevent future thefts from occurring.

One of the key services that CargoNet provides is a centralized database of stolen cargo information, which is used to alert members of potential theft risks and to track stolen goods as they are moved through the supply chain. This information is critical for trucking companies, as it helps them to identify and avoid cargo that may have been stolen or is at risk of being stolen.

However, there are instances when trucking companies may hold freight hostage, either intentionally or unintentionally. This can occur for a variety of reasons, such as a dispute over payment or a misunderstanding about the terms of the transportation agreement. In these cases, the trucking company may refuse to release the freight until the issue has been resolved, which can cause significant delays and financial losses for the shipper.

To prevent this type of situation from occurring, it is important for trucking companies to have clear and concise contracts in place with their clients, outlining the terms of the transportation agreement and any potential disputes that may arise. It is also important for trucking companies to work with trusted partners, such as CargoNet, to ensure that they are able to quickly and effectively resolve any issues that may arise during the transportation process.

In summary, CargoNet is a company that provides theft prevention and recovery services to the trucking industry, helping trucking companies to avoid stolen cargo and recover stolen goods. While holding freight hostage is not a common occurrence, it can happen, and it is important for trucking companies to have clear contracts in place and work with trusted partners to avoid and resolve any disputes that may arise.
